Helen Lambert

A bit about me

Hi! Pleased to meet you. I'm Helen Lambert, a freelance designer and developer based in London, UK. I've been self-employed since I finished post-graduate education in 2006, and design has formed the core of my career over the last two years. I offer high-quality creative services, from design and development to branding and consultancy. I'm currently contracting for Online Galleries as their part-time in house designer, and fill te rest of my time with freelance projects to keep things interesting. Since I started out I've contracted with a wide range of clients, from large and small business to charities, arts organisations and individuals. I enjoy my work far too much and tend towards perfectionism. I'm constantly striving to create clean, beautiful, easy-to-use designs that comply with the latest web standards. Freelancing has been a challenging road, but I thrive on the variety and freedom it brings.

I'm completely self-taught, with nearly ten years' experience creating and coding websites by hand. Buying a domain and constructing my own website was one of the first things I did when I first discovered the internet, and I haven't looked back. I'm always looking for new challenges, seeking to expand my skills and experience. I've worked hard to establish a career in the creative industries, and I count myself very lucky to be able to work doing something I love.

I'm passionate about creating expressive typography, evocative graphics, and elegant CSS. As a developer, I believe that code can - and should - be just as gorgeous as the user interface. In addition to aesthetic appeal, I prioritise usability, accessibility and disability awareness in my designs. With every project, I strive to give the best value possible to my client. I'm communicative and focussed, and I'm not afraid of tight deadlines.

When I'm designing, I prefer to use Photoshop and Illustrator, but I can also find my way around Indesign and Quark. I code sites with XHTML, CSS, and a little bit of Javascript. I have an ongoing love affair with CSS which I don't see ending any time soon. Any project which gives me an excuse to learn new properties or values is guaranteed to make me happy.

When I'm not designing, I run a small business as an artist and illustrator. You can view my art portfolio at EarthSkyArt.com.
